Ava is a pit bull mix, a little over 3 ½ years old. She was abandoned as a puppy and adopted a short time later through DFW Pup Patrol at about 4 months old. She’s been pretty much been the picture of health her whole life. She’s house trained, as well as crate trained, and doesn’t chew on any belongings.
Ava is very intelligent, loyal, and loving. Having friends and family of all ages over, Ava enjoys all of them. She’s done very well with children (ages 1-7), playing much more gently with them than she would with some adults. She’s also pretty good with the 2 cats in her current home. Occasionally she’s gotten a little too excited for the cat’s comfort and we’ve had to tell her “easy” but she’s never hurt either cat that lived with her.
Training provided the tools to make her a more obedient and well-trained dog. Some of her training examples: she eats her food only when given the command “Okay”, she will drop the toy she is playing with on command, and if she’s interested in something we want her to ignore we say “leave it” and she averts her attention. With an occasional long walk and 15-20 minutes of fetch each day (her favorite thing in this world) she is content to relax around the house and chew on her bone. She is a bit of a princess and doesn’t particularly like sitting/laying on cold or hard surfaces. She is a clean dog that doesn’t shed much so she's always been allowed on furniture. However she’ll reluctantly retreat to her dog bed or the rug if she's told “off”. She loves to sleep under the covers with her humans, especially in the colder months, but sleeps in her crate most of the time.
Since she’s a relatively young dog she has so much to offer the right family. In a situation where she’s the only dog in the house and has people (adults or children) who can be active with her she’ll be a loving, playful, protective addition to the family.
Ava is spayed and up to date on her shots and heartworm prevention. There will be a home visit and trial, as well as a re-homing fee for her.
