About Reggie

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: PP071614LA
  • General Color: Red/Golden/Orange/Chestnut with Black
  • Declawed: No

Reggie is estimated to be 3 years old, about 16 lbs, and we believe is a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen pup.  He was owner surrendered to a local shelter with 2 additional younger males that we suspect are his sons.  They were all suffering from fevers due to urinary tract infections  They were in varying degrees of cleanliness and grooming, Reggie was matted to such a degree that we trimmed his coat very close to the skin.  When it grows out his coat will be beautiful, long, silky, and a burnished strawberry blonde color.  Reggie has the most beautiful golden soulful eyes.  His personality is very calm and sweet, very needy of human companionship and attention.  We suspect that he is the male part of a 'backyard breeding' situation (solely our opinion) and this is supported by many of his behavior patterns.  He does very well in a kennel by himself, in fact, he prefers to be in a closed space as opposed to being outside with no walls or ceiling.  He loves to ride in the car; he is learning to walk on a leash.  He is suspicious of sounds and locations with which he is unfamiliar.  He is making great progress on housetraining, he needs to be taken out every 2 to 3 hours at this point; however, he is able to hold it through the night.  He sleeps in a bed of his own on the floor in the bedroom by his humans.  He does well with children as long as they are not overly loud and active.  He will not do well with cats that free-roam in the house; however, he does very well with other dogs of all sizes and ages with a proper introduction.  He has completed his meds for the urinary tract infection; however, he continues to be on a special diet for a period of time.  Reggie will steal your heart with his sweetness and he is a great companion dog.
