Maya was thrown in a backyard and forgotten for years and she relied on her own intuition to survive. Some of the choices she's made haven't been the best, but she just did the best she could and she's a survivor. She's learned humans aren't to be trusted, they only cause hardship and pain. Other animals aren't to be trusted as they are a lot like the humans she's met. She's never known "trust, love, friendship" but she's learning. Maya has been through obedience training and has some tools now that will allow her to gain the confidence she needs and start building a loving trusting relationship with her next human. She's going to fall head over heels in love with someone and be fiercely loyal to them. She's probably never going to be a social butterfly, but to that one individual who grants her unconditional love, she's going to pledge her life. She's looking for someone with a firm loving hand to show her what it's like to be a loved dog. She's slow to trust but it does come to her. Once that trust has been established she will steal your heart. Maya is around 5-1/2 years old. She is housetrained, crate trained, rides great in a car, and has minimal shedding. Being part Chow, she will need regular grooming maintenance, including her ears as they are prone to infection if not taken care of. She loves the safety of her crate, the door does not have to be closed for this. She loves and needs to know her human companion is in charge and will keep her safe. Maya does seem to prefer males over females and with strangers she has to be the one to approach you, not you approach her. That’s some of her insecurity and trust issues and only time, patience, and love will overcome that. She’s very affectionate and she loves to play. She loves to just lay around and hang out. Whatever her chosen human is doing is just fine. She loves car rides. She loves to go. She’s a clean dog. She is a nervous dog. She is fine hanging out by herself at times, but she really wants to be involved in what you’re doing.
