Sable is a really sweet dog who with think is a Retriever/Catahoula mix girl.  She is estimated to be about 2 years of age and weighs approximately 60 lbs.  She absolutely loves her daily brushing and she is happiest when she can be near people...very much a socialite kind of gal! Sable gets along well with other dogs, but scares the kajeebies out of the cat. She may warm up to the cat with time. She takes treats very gently and shows no food aggression toward people. She has not yet been tested with food aggression around other dogs.  On a leash, she does tend to pull when you're with another dog, but does just fine fine when being walked alone. She knows the command sit and shake and is housetrained. When we first brought her into rescue she did not do well at all with being put into her kennel, but she's now eating all her meals calmly with the door closed. We will continue to work with her on that until she feels like it's really her kennel/space and doesn't get fearful of being left or feel trapped.

Sable does do well with being sectioned off in a room and has not been destructive. She does have some bad habits of jumping up on you, pawing, and rushing through the door (about knocking you over). We are working on all of these as well.

When we rescued Sable she tested positive for heartworm because her past owners did not feel it necessary to give her monthly heartworm prevention.  She has been treated successfully for this and is now on the prevention monthly.  Following heartworm treatment it is very important to keep the dog calm for the 4 weeks following.  During this time, as with many dogs, it's been extremely difficult for her to remain calm and she doesn't understand. Now that her treatment is over she will receive daily exercise and all of the pent up happy energy she has will begin to calm down.

Sable is an absolutely wonderful dog who requires human companionship, another pup to play with, and a family who can provide her with consistent daily exercise...nothing more than what most dogs want and deserve.  Be prepared to be given lots of love and affection in return :)
