Let me introduce you to Zeus. Zeus was turned into a local kill shelter at about nine weeks old. Zeus was stuck in a box, with one of the worst cases of demodectic mange or red mange I've ever seen. In addition to the mange he was full of intestinal parasites and an umbilical hernia. This poor boy had to be bathed in a medicated soap, take oral medication; and at times his skin was so raw it would bleed. I would have to wrap him in a towel so he could sit on my lap. He couldn't be out in the sun too long for fear of a sunburn. The skin condition made it hard for him to play with the other dogs. Despite all his problems Zeus has fought hard to get well. Zeus is now just over a year old (he turned 1 in September) and is currently about 18-20 lbs. He is a very happy healthy puppy. He has been raised in a house with other dogs both male and female, he does great with cats, and he does like to play with them. I have taken him to the dog park where he does well with new animals. He has been around my nephews, but maybe too energetic for smaller kids. Zeus prefers to walk in a harness. Zeus plays fetch in the house, but sometimes forgets what he's doing outside. Zeus is crate trained, and house trained. He enjoys being on your lap or cuddled in bed, but seems to get a little nervous when held or carried around. I believe due to all the bath’s he had at such an early age, he’s a bit of a handful when getting bathed but will allow it as long as he gets to stand up on his back legs. I admit because of the shape Zeus was in for so long he is a bit spoiled, so a basic obedience class would be a good idea for him. Zeus is very food motivated. I currently feed Zeus in his crate just because he tends to eat fast and then wants some out of other bowls. I think Zeus would make a great addition to any household, especially ones with other dogs to play with or children to keep him busy.
