Hi, my name is Alfie. My pictures may make me look serious but I’m really very loving and playful. And I’ve never met a human I haven’t liked! I can be a little shy at first because in my early days I didn’t have much exposure to people (at least nice people), but once I get to sniff you a bit, I’m showering you with kisses and you’re a friend for life! I’m about 15 months old and weigh 42 pounds. The vet said that I’m as big as I’m going to get.
I don’t remember much about my early days, except that I was abandoned at a local business on a cold December day. I was really thin, and covered in chigger bites. I was also HW+. I hadn’t really been treated kindly. I’d never been inside a home, and I’d never had any treats or any toys to play with. Fortunately, the owner of the business took care of me until help arrived.
I’ve now finished my HW treatment, I’ve been neutered, I’ve had all my shots, and I’m good to go. My foster mom is working on crate training and teaching me how to walk on a leash. I’m making good progress but I still need a little patience. I didn’t know any commands before I went to live with her, so we’re working on that, too. I’m very smart and eager to please. I live with another dog now; he’s a golden retriever. We get along fine, but he’s kind of timid too, so we aren’t pals quite yet. Oh, and I’m great with kids – love to kiss them. I’m not sure about cats, because I haven’t been around them yet.
I’m supposed to be kept quiet until early May because of the HW treatment, but I get to romp a little in the yard, which is great fun. But my favorite thing to do is curl up on the couch for a snooze with my foster mom.
